Jonathan Shepherd, M.D. is an award-winning, board-certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist dedicated to improving the mental health and well-being of children, families, and adults through compassionate, evidence-based care. Named Top Doctor in psychiatry, he is renowned for his nurturing bedside manner and comprehensive approach to wellness, providing treatment for a range of conditions including anxiety and mood disorders, ADHD, PTSD, and more, with a focus on culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches.

Dr. Shepherd currently serves as Chief Clinical Officer for the Department of Behavioral Health for the District of Columbia, overseeing the development, management, and oversight of the public behavioral health system for adults, children, and families. This system is consumer-driven, community-based, culturally competent, and committed to prevention, resiliency, recovery, and overall well-being. Prior to this role, he spent 12 years as Chief Medical Director for Hope Health Systems, Inc., headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland.

A graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical School and its Adult Psychiatry Program, as well as the Johns Hopkins University Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship, Dr. Shepherd blends professionalism and compassion to create healthier communities. His leadership extends beyond clinical settings, serving on numerous boards and contributing to organizations that shape mental health policy and programs in diverse communities. He has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (2020), Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (2019), and was inducted into the American College of Psychiatrists(2024), one of the highest honors in the field.

In addition to his clinical and administrative leadership, Dr. Shepherd is the visionary behind “WHERE MINISTRY & MEDICINE FLOURISH.”, an educational and entertainment initiative offering live presentations, workshops, and seminars in mental health. Through this platform, he leads speaking tours and delivers impactful sessions that integrate clinical expertise with engaging, accessible education—empowering audiences to embrace emotional wellness and create lasting change.
